CAFS towards a more entrepreneurial-thinking approach

As the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) now implements the farm-to-plate approach, it co-hosted the Design Thinking and Technopreneurship Workshop spearheaded by the UPLB Technology Transfer and Business Development Office (TTBDO) on April 15 at the IAS Lecture Hall 2.

The workshop aims to serve as gateway to starting up solutions to problems faced by the agriculture sector, especially on how agricultural products developed and produced by the College will reach its intended market.

The guest speakers were Mr. Rodel Anunciado, CAFS alumnus and entrepreneur; and Ms. Joie Cruz, UPLB alumna and founder of B612 Design Philippines. While Mr. Anunciado discussed the entrepreneurial mindset, Ms. Cruz facilitated a hands-on workshop on the design thinking process. Using design thinking, the participants were tasked to come up with solutions to help empower the Filipino farmers, an advocacy close to the heart of the CAFS.

Dean Elpidio M. Agbisit, Jr., who also attended the event, shared his enthusiasm towards the workshop. He emphasized how it is in line with the recent addition of entrepreneurship to the curriculum of CAFS degrees, “Hindi makakapunta yung products natin sa farm, sa plato ng ating mga kasamahan kung walang entrepreneurship component. Moreover, he hopes that the participants, especially the students, appreciates the workshop and apply the lessons to be imparted during the event.

The workshop was participated by CAFS faculties, REPS, and students from the academic and research units of the College. (AKS Mojar)
