The National Crop Protection Center stands as a primary institution for Research and Development, Extension as part of the University of the Philippines Los Baños’ serious efforts in promoting the country’s food security and agricultural sustainability through an effective pest management program.

Established on May 19, 1976 by virtue of P.D. 936issued by former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, the Center is an expansion of the Rodent Research Center which was created in 1968. Through the efforts of Minister of Agriculture, Arturo R. Tanco, Jr., former UPLB Chancellor Abelardo B. Samonte, College of Agriculture Dean Cledualdo B. Perez, Jr., and founding Director Fernando F. Sanchez, the Center became a comprehensive unit on pest management.

The USAID and Ministry of Agriculture provided funds for the building scholarships and for the creation of Regional Crop Protection Centers.
