CAFS joins Loyalty Day celebration; strikes 4th win in Best Float award

The College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) delegation, headed by Dean Elpidio M. Agbisit, Jr., participated in the 101st UPLB Loyalty Day and Alumni Homecoming Foot and Float Parade with the theme “UP Los Baños: Patuloy na Tumutugon sa Hamon ng Buhay” last October 10 at the UPLB grounds.

The CAFS contingent consisted of the CAFS Executive Committee members, faculty, researchers, staff, and students who waved their flags – designed in strips of green and gold, the official CAFS colors, as they trailed behind the CAFS float carrying the theme “Ugnayang Kalikasan, Tao at Syensya: Ating Tugon sa Patuloy na Laban sa mga Hamon ng Bayan.” The float was symbolic as it was able to convey the challenges being faced and should be addressed by the country. As the Center of Excellence in Agricultural Education, the College plays a big role in facing these challenges. The float symbolizes hope for the Filipinos towards a productive and responsive community.

After the parade, the CAFS hosted a Luncheon-Salu-salo for its alumni, faculty, staff, and students at the Charles Fuller Baker Hall. Coinciding with this Salu-salo was the announcement of the winners of the float contest. After placing second in 2018, the CAFS again bagged the Best Float award for the 4th time.  From 2015-2017, the college has consistently been the recipient of the said award.

The float’s design was conceptualized and adorned through the collaborative efforts and artistic minds of the men and women of CAFS headed by Engr. Francis M. Junsay, together with Prof. Norma G. Medina, Prof. Ryan P. Tayobong, and staff from the different units of CAFS. (Imelda M. Gesmundo)
