CAFS programs gear up for AUN-QA certification

As the College of Agriculture and Food Science (CAFS) prepares for the ASEAN University Network – Quality Assurance (AUN-QA) certification for its degree programs, the College hosted the CAFS In-House Workshop on Self-Assessment Report (SAR) Preparation. The 4-day workshop was held last February 8, 10, 11, and 15.

The workshop was divided into six sessions, namely:

  • Session 1: SAR Overview with Dr. Nina Cadiz,
  • Session 2: Curriculum with Dr. Filma Calalo,
  • Session 3: Faculty and Staff Quality with Dr. Augusto Sumalde,
  • Session 4: Student Assessment with Dr. Maria Cynthia Oliveros,
  • Session 5: Facilities and Infrastructures with Dr. Oliver Abanto, and
  • Session 6: Stakeholders with Dr. Amado Angeles.

Dr. Nina Cadiz is UPLB’s Quality Assurance (QA) Officer and Director of the Academic Assessment and Development Unit (AADU). She is Member-at-Large of the UP System Academic Affairs Committee and member of various UP System technical working groups related to QA. Since 2016, she is an ASEAN AUN-QA Assessor and has completed Tiers 1 – 3 of AUN-QA Trainings. As a Professor at the Institute of Biological Sciences, College of Arts and Sciences, she was involved in the AUN-QA certification for the BS Biology program.

Meanwhile, the other speakers were all from CAFS and were the focal persons during the SAR preparation for the BS Agriculture (BSA) program in 2016.

This year, teams from the BS Agricultural Biotechnology (BSABT) and BS Food Science and Technology (BSFST) programs will prepare the respective reports, for the first time. This is in line with the College’s intent to submit all pertinent documents for AUN-QA certification in 2022.

The 4-day virtual workshop was held to help the members of the SAR teams be acclimatized with the process of data gathering and report preparation in accordance with the AUN-QA criteria.

This workshop was organized by the CAFS QA Committee, led by Associate Dean for Instruction, Dr. Adeliza Dorado.
